Most parents share their son’s or daughter’s love of soccer and may be looking for an all-day summer camp where the kids can become better players. But most camps offer nothing but soccer drills, six hours a day, five days a week, in the summer heat, with burn-out guaranteed. Why not learn an extra skill after a few hours of soccer practice? Why not nurture both body and mind? Why not learn German and become a better soccer player in this one-of-a-kind German immersion camp?
IN THE CLASSROOM
We’re perfectly aware that our campers are on vacation, that they don’t want to be bored with grammar drills and dull textbook exercises. That’s why Score with German only works with teaching materials that are completely geared towards the passionate soccer player and the young language learner. Soccer will make language learning exciting and fun!
Give it a try. “Die Angst des Torwarts beim Elfmeter” gives you an idea of the exercises we work with in our camp.
Research shows that a foreign language will get picked up quickly if there is meaningful communication in real life situations – and what can be more meaningful for our campers than soccer. We’ll provide meaningful communication both inside the classroom and on the soccer field. Just like kids pick up basic soccer skills in no time, the campers will acquire some basic language skills that will enable them to start speaking in German right here in our camp!
ON THE SOCCER FIELD
In our camp, learning German does not stop when the kids leave the classroom. It’s on the soccer filed where we put in motion what was learned in the classroom. Instructions and encouragement will be in German only, English will be shown the red card immediately. Our immersion approach may be a little challenging at first, but we will support the campers all the way – in the classroom and on the soccer field.
When it comes to soccer we firmly believe that soccer is most enjoyed in an environment where you can experience a true sense of community. That’s why our coaches’ top task will be to create a family atmosphere where everybody thrives.
The kids will not be bored with monotonous drills. There will be plenty of scrimmages and a camp tournament. Our motto is: Not a single activity without a soccer ball!
Our camps are for everybody. The kids will be amazed how much their soccer skills and enjoyment of the world’s greatest sport will be enhanced in our stressfree Score with German environment.
In 2010, we’re offering a residential camp at St. Mary’s College in Moraga, CA, twenty miles east of San Francisco. Campers who feel they are not quite ready for an overnight camp can still participate in the entire German&Soccer day program. In Southern California, Yorba Linda High School will host a day camp.
In 2011, we’ll expand our day camps to regions outside of Calfifornia. Please stay tuned.
